UK drinks producers could be facing tough new laws after government ministers issued a warning to the industry.
Retailers are failing to follow a voluntary code of practice and it could result in restrictions being introduced to happy hours, retail checkout displays and labels on alcoholic products. Drinking is a major health issue in the UK and according to National StatisticsĀ data is responsible forĀ over 200,000 hospital admissions each year.
Despite all the evidence, industry representivities have said that new laws are not necessary and that proposed changes will only hit responsible drinkers in the pocket.
Clearly it’s a culture change that is the answer, but as everyone seems to agree, that will take some time to bring about.
